Cognitive Intervention for Children with Traumatic Brain Injury
This one year pilot study will examine the effectiveness of a short-term, individualized occupational therapy intervention with children 7-15 years of age who are experiencing difficulties at home and school after a traumatic brain injury. Therapists will use the Cognitive Orientation to daily Occupational Performance (CO-OP) intervention with ten children over a 12-week period. CO-OP is designed to teach children a problem-solving approach to difficulties that they have performing everyday tasks. Participants are children who had a brain injury at least 8 months ago and received treatment at the Hamilton Health Sciences Children's Hospital. Some of the children are already participating in CanChild's Transitions Experienced by Children and Their Families After Acquired Brain Injury study.
