Biography

Lívia C. Magalhães, PhD, OTR, is a full professor of occupational therapy at the Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil, where she is involved with the graduate programs in Rehabilitation Sciences and Occupational Studies. Her research interests are in motor coordination problems in children, especially developmental coordination disorder, and in the development and validation of assessment tools to improve early identification of developmental delay and motor coordination problems. Coordinating a developmental follow up program for preterm neonates, she has a great interest in family-centred care and strategies to improve developmental outcomes in preterm children from low-income families.  Living and working in Brazil, she is interested in low-cost assessment tools and intervention programs that are viable under economical restrains. Currently, her main research projects are to investigate the long-term consequences of prematurity and the validation of a standardized test to identify motor coordination problems among Brazilian children ages 4 to 8 years old.
